The function of the Court Officer provides for the efficient operation of the court process. The Court Officer acts as a liaison between the Crown Prosecutor's office, Defense Councils, and the Police Force. The Court Office receives all completed investigative reports from both patrol members and major crime officers. The Court Officer then reviews the files and prepares all necessary paperwork and copies for the Crown Attorney to review. Once the Crown Prosecutor reviews and approves the file for charges then the court proceedings begin. The Court Officer will attend court and lay official charges. The Court Officer then appears in court on behalf of the Kennebecasis Regional Police Department and assists in setting trial dates.
