Our motto, “Our Community, Our Commitment”, demonstrates the importance our officers place on community and police relations. Our Community Relations Officer's responsibilities include such functions as crime prevention, education, and community relations.
The Community Relations Officer is the coordinator of the D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program for the Rothesay Regional Police Force. This program is delivered to all grade 5 students in District 6. The tangible benefits of this program is that a rapport is developed between the students and the officers. Students feel comfortable speaking with their officer and know they can come to them with any concerns or questions they may have.
The Community Relations Officer is also part of PASAGE Saint John (Preventing Addiction Substance Abuse and Gambling Education), the Crime Prevention Association of New Brunswick, and the Winter Safety program for elementary students. Early detection and intervention is still declared to be the best solution to crime escalation involving youth. Education, prevention, and rehabilitation is incredibly important to all law enforcement personnel.
The goal of the Community Relations Officer is to continue to develop programs which specifically deal with the needs of this community.
